This week's walk took us through the Carey Burn valley, west of Wooler. What promised to be a beautiful spring day turned into a rather cloudy morning, but with some lovely sunshine in the afternoon. The scenery was stunningly beautiful, and very varied, featuring the burn, crags, scree slopes, open fields, moorland and woodland. We got some great views over the Cheviot Hills, notably of Hedgehope Hill and Humbleton Hill. What was particularly memorable about this walk was the bird song that we were constantly accompanied by. We heard chiffchaffs, buzzards, pheasants, wood pigeons and a skylark, amongst others. We also kept a lookout for other signs that spring is well on its way, noticing vibrant colours, budding trees, and tiny spring lambs.
